Right, with that done follow Michaels links and download the drivers… XP doesn’t install third-party drivers, well it does for the one’s that are packaged with XP but this is a finite amount and if you have custom parts like on laptops you will always get exclamation marks in device manager after installing a Retail XP. Hi Phil, 1394 Net Adaptor Connection is basically Win2k/XP’s way of telling you that you have a Firewire interface installed in your system. I suspect that the installation process may have done that because it couldn’t find anything else in working condition, but it really isn’t going to help you.

Setting up networking software and firewalls on the 1394 Adapter is next to useless. While it is possible to use it for networking, the chances that you have any other Firewire device that provides access to the Internet is roughly… zero. It’s similar to (but not compatible with) a USB 2.0 interface.

We know that you have access to the Internet on some other PC (you posted to this forum! <), and with luck you also have a CD-ROM writer, so it shouldn’t be TOO difficult (just time-consuming) to install the drivers on the A100.īy the way - the 1394 Adapter is a “Firewire” interface. So, if you used a generic version of XP Pro, you WILL have to acquire all the drivers (they are available from Toshiba at &By=Toshiba). That’s one of the main reasons that Microsoft works with PC manufacturers to configure installation CD-ROMs that ARE specific to the configurations that users actually receive. There’s no way that a single CD-ROM could hold the drivers for all the possible components on all the possible system configurations. On the other hand, if you used a retail CD-ROM, it will NOT have installed drivers for most of the equipment. If the disk came with the computer, it SHOULD have installed drivers for all the standard equipment. As the A100 is about two years old, it may well have come with SP2 pre-installed, so you’ll have to tell us the source of your installation disk. That depends on whether you did a clean install from a CD-ROM provided by Toshiba as part of the original equipment with the notebook, or from a retail copy of XP Pro.
